The History Behind the Podcast

  • Christine's father, Major Joseph Haughney, runs one of the earliest versions of the internet, called the Arpanet. Back then, the Arpanet was a military-run project that allowed academics to do research if they had a defense angle.

1981 | Christine's father leaves the military and starts writing about his concerns about the future of the Arpanet/ Internet, how it could be contaminated by "Computer Freaks" and his fears of online harm. When Christine grows up and becomes a journalist, he encourages her for decades to report about the founding fathers of the internet and the early days of the Arpanet.

  • Christine's mother passes away and her father is diagnosed with dementia.
